School is back in, and fall is fast approaching. But, looks like we have been graced with some late summer weather as well! Hopefully you all have been able to take advantage of some of it…digging in the garden, hiking, camping, sitting out on a patio. Remember, even just 20 min a day outside can help our health. Especially with a little more Vit D to soak up! My favorite is that early morning sun peaking through the trees as you relax with a cup of coffee. Doesn’t get much better! Whatever your preference is, get outside while you can!

August has been a full and exciting month at Medicine by Movement!
I've been working with clients on movement performance and sport-specific movement screens—just a reminder that these are still 50% off if you book by August 31st!
Our Monthly Wellness Group continues to grow, and we're always excited to welcome new faces. If you’ve been curious, come try a free class and see if it’s the right fit for you!
I’m also getting ready for the next Low Back Pain Class, which kicks off on September 2nd. If you or someone you know struggles with low back pain, this class is a powerful way to take charge and learn effective strategies for lasting relief. See below for more info.
Finally, August has had a strong focus on softball performance and injury prevention—an important piece in keeping athletes strong, healthy, and game-ready.
Feel free to check out my Instagram site for all my Treatment Tuesday exercises related to this!

Eccentric Forearm Extensor Training

Have you ever had pain on the outside of your elbow?
Has anyone said you have tennis elbow? Unfortunately, this is a fairly common injury, and it is definitely common in throwing athletes such as softball. It's also extremely hard to get rid of!
We have multiple muscles through the forearm that help to move our wrist, and they all connect to the same spot on our elbow, called the Common Extensor Tendon.
If the muscles can't accept the load placed on it such as with a back hand during tennis, often with gripping activities, as well as with some throwing activities, it will break down at the weakest point...which is the tendon.
Feel free to check out my you tube video on Tennis Elbow with the link below, but for now, if this is something you are currently dealing with, or want to avoid in the future, start doing your forearm eccentrics today! Check out the video above, or reach out with more questions!

Low Back Pain Class!!!
The next 6 week Low Back Pain Class is now open for registration!
Class starts Tue, Sep 2nd!
This group class is designed to help anyone who has struggled with Low Back Pain or would like to avoid it in the future. It is constructed to provide challenging, but safe exercises for all ages and activity levels.
It will begin on Tuesday, Sep 2 from 12-1pm at 311 Price Street, and continue each following Tue for 6 weeks. It is available via zoom, and will be recorded so you are able to watch at a later time if needed. We will start about 5 after the hour, and wrap up at 5 till for anyone attending on a lunch break.
You will meet as a group 1x/week to go through specific exercises and treatment techniques to help with your back pain, progress your strength and flexibility, and prevent future problems. Alicia has been working with low back pain patients for nearly 20 years, and will provide accommodations and modifications to keep you safe throughout.
Videos and information will be given weekly as homework ranging from proper nutrition to help with your pain, ergonomic set ups to avoid aggravating the back, education in back mechanics and activity, as well as specific exercises and stretches based off your current function and pain levels.
This is the perfect transition for those folks that have participated in Physical Therapy, and are ready to be discharged, but don’t feel totally comfortable continuing to work on their own. Never been to PT and unsure if you can handle it? No worries! I will adjust the exercises to make sure you stay safe, yet still make gains. It’s also the perfect class to learn new tricks and techniques to prevent future LBP, and just to strengthen your core and improve your overall function!
The cost is $200 for the course, which is just over $30/session.
This is often less than the cost of a co-pay if you are attending PT, so also a great option for those on a budget.
If you can't make this 6 week course, but are interested,
reach out to Alicia at 907-623-8708 to get on the wait list for the next 6 week course!

Medicine by Movement is HIRING!
Do you know a PT or Athletic Trainer who is passionate about their profession, but also interested in preventative care? I am currently looking to hire a PT starting about 20 hours/week with a mix of patient care, as well as group classes. There is the potential to grow this to a full time position if desired.
Athletic Trainer?
I am looking to expand both my group classes, as well as injury-prevention classes and would love to work with someone who has similar goals!
Feel free to pass along my website info, or have them reach out directly to me to chat: 907-623-8708 or medicine.by.movement@outlook.com
Well Yes
I am so excited about this new business! I announced this collaboration in the last newsletter, but wanted to continue to keep you all up to date. Susan Chartier of Eastern Channel Acupuncture and I have come together to offer a more holistic approach to health. Medicine by Movement is remaining the same. This is just a new collaborative business starting with community outreach such as educational talks, classes, workshops, and wellness options. We have big dreams and have been working very hard on what the future of this business looks like, and we will keep you all posted as it evolves. Please either use this link, or use the QR code below to sign up for our mail list to stay informed on upcoming classes, talks, and any exciting news as it develops: https://l.bttr.to/CXRhm

Deal of the Month
You still have time to sign up for the Aug deal:
Take 50% off pre-season injury screen and movement performance evaluations.
We use preventative care in so many areas of our life…the dentist, yearly physical, even oil changes for our vehicles. Why don’t we do this with how our bodies move?
If you have a kiddo involved in a sport, this is the perfect opportunity to rule out potential movement compensations that could lead to a detrimental injury such as an ACL tear. I can tailor it to a specific sport, or just a general movement screen.
Not in a sport? I have you covered!
I can also do general movement screens, as well as a more broad wellness screen to help set some goals and figure out what to focus on. This is meant to be an evaluation to fine tune your movement, not to evaluate an injury. Reach out with questions or to schedule! As long as you reach out some time in August, this will be honored through 2025.
Don’t feel like you need a one-on-one movement evaluation, come to my
FREE movement screen workshop on Friday, Sep 19th!
Alicia Haseltine PT, DPT, CMPT holds a monthly injury prevention talk and workshop open to all for free. In Sep, I will be holding a hands-on workshop walking you through a movement screen, from 12-1pm at 311 Price street.

This will help tease out any compensation patterns you may have developed over time, as well as tight or weak areas. The hope is you walk away with education in how your body moves, and a few important exercises to work on to help avoid future injuries. Although this event is free, please sign up in advance via this link:
or QR code below so I know how many people to prepare for.
Thank you! Questions, call Alicia @ 907-623-8708.
Thanks everyone! I hope you all soak up the rest of our summer, and reach out for any of your health or wellness needs!
Your PT and Wellness Coach,
Alicia
